Becoming a Co-op

If you are interested in becoming a co-op with ADTRAN, the process is relatively simple, yet very competitive. We select from the best and brightest from the schools where we interview. Here's what is involved:

Meet With Your Advisor

The first step requires little effort and preparation. Check the Schools section of our site to see the schools where we are actively recruiting. Get in touch with the advisor listed at your school early in your academic term. If there is a Student Ambassador listed, contact him or her too. These two on-campus contacts will help get ready for an interview with our recruiter.

Interview With Us On Campus

This is when things begin to get a little nerve-wrecking. It shouldn't be. During your interview we try to get to know you. Formal business dress is impressive and is suggested by co-op advisors. Usually before the day of interviews, we host an info night on-campus when you, your classmates, and professors can learn more about ADTRAN. Not being a household name, it is important that we introduce ourselves to people who are unfamiliar with our company. Even if you cannot schedule a co-op interview with us, it's a good idea to come to this info session.

Come Visit Our Facility

After our on-campus interviews, we review your resume and our conversation during your interview. In most cases, we notify our interviewees within one business day whether we have decided to invite them to our Huntsville, Alabama facility for further interviewing. This is a very difficult decision because all of the students who choose to interview with us are very talented and anxious to work for us. During your on-site visit, we introduce you to four or five of our engineers who will talk with you about your interests and coursework. Again, this may seem intimidating, but keeping your cool is important. Don't be afraid to say "I don't know." At lunchtime, a couple of our co-ops will treat you to lunch when you can talk with them one-on-one about their experiences at ADTRAN and in Huntsville.

Consider Our Offer

Again, we review the interviews you had with our engineers and use their advice to determine if ADTRAN is right for you. We will send a letter within a few weeks notifying you of our decision. If you receive a job offer, congratulations! Tell your friends and family -- this will prove to be one of the best days in your professional life. Now, it's time to start planning to move here.

Move To Huntsville

Prior to your first work term at ADTRAN, we offer our newly hired co-ops an apartment-hunting trip when you can travel to Huntsville in search of a place to stay. This includes a two nights' stay at a hotel as well as mileage reimbursement. We will send you information if you request it to help you in your decision. We also suggest using the Apartments section of this website to get you ready.
