ADTRAN's History

With one look at ADTRAN's facility, one would think that they've been around forever. In fact, there are a lot of things that people do not know about ADTRAN... like who are they?! Hopefully the following will help.

Why have I never heard of ADTRAN?

ADTRAN is a leader in the telecommunications industry. Still, ADTRAN is not a name that you see at Wal-Mart and Best Buy when you peruse the telephone or computer aisles. Most people figure ADTRAN stands for something, and they are right: Advanced Transmissions. ADTRAN deals solely with the commercial aspect of the industry, particularly carriers and enterprises. "Carriers" include companies like AT&T, BellAtlantic, Motorola, Quest, Verizon, and your local ISP. "Enterprises" are large companies that need a means of connecting their networks over the distances separating their facilities. You may not see us, but we're always there!

I use ADTRAN products every day?

Yes. Every time you pick up the phone, you expect a dial tone. Every time you place a fax, you expect it to go through. Every time you swipe your credit card, you expect it to be approved. And, every time you send an email to your friend, you expect him/her to receive it. ADTRAN ensures every one of these connections and transmissions is successful. ADTRAN's products are used nationally and globally to keep us all connected.

How did ADTRAN start & Where are they now?

Back in the early '80s, AT&T was deregulated, thereby opening up the market to other parties. This fissure led seven motivated men in 1986 to begin developing telecommunication devices to meet and exceed their competition. Today, ADTRAN is a multi-million dollar corporation employing more than 1,700 people in offices around the world. Our main facility is located in Cummings Research Park in bustling Huntsville, Alabama. ADTRAN's stock symbol is ADTN.

What makes ADTRAN such a great place to work?

ADTRAN is a company like no other. Mark Smith, the founder of ADTRAN, had a unique philosophy on how business should be run, and his vision carries through today. Some of this expressed in our facilities. One step on our campus and you're mesmerized by our beautiful landscape, soothing lake, and impressive architecture. ADTRAN associates enjoy benefits aside from 401(k) and high job security. Every employee is eligible for SmartForce training, a computer-based program of learning technologies ADTRAN works with, all for free. Equipment and furnishings in ADTRAN's three facilities are of the highest quality. Hallways in the facility are larger than normal to encourage socializing while at work. At ADTRAN, we are a team, a family; everyone is on the same level. There are no badges and door placards throughout the facilities. This allows the spawning of relationships among associates. These are just some of the many ways we strive to make each employee feel important and welcome here at ADTRAN.
