Find A Place To Call Home

Prior to a newly hired co-op's first work term, ADTRAN encourages the student to come to Huntsville and find a place to live for that time. During his or her stay, ADTRAN pays for two nights stay at a hotel as well as for the mileage to and from their university campus and Huntsville. During the student's time in Huntsville, he or she can become more familiar with the area while securing living accommodations for his or her work term. ADTRAN co-op students typically do not have to look very hard to find good deals on apartments near the Cummings Research Park. Indeed, ADTRAN even has arrangements with the Bridgwater apartment complex to provide deals to visiting co-op workers. During their first work term, co-ops begin planning for their next time in Huntsville and work together to find places to stay.

Let Us Help You With That Box

Moving can be a burden, especially when it's every semester as is the case with many of ADTRAN's co-ops. To defer some of the costs of moving, ADTRAN reimburses students for their travel to Huntsville at the start of their work terms and to their respective universities at the end of their work terms. It is understood that many students do not travel directly from their universities when moving to Huntsville, yet only the mileage between their universities and Huntsville is covered by this financial assistance.

Take A Class While You're Here

Co-op students who receive permission from their managers and meet other qualifications can take a class at the University of Alabama in Huntsville or any other local universities at ADTRAN's expense. Miscellaneous fees and books are left to the student to pay, but as many students realize, this is a small amount compared to out-of-state tuition in many cases. Managers and fellow associates of co-ops recognize this extra responsibility and are willing to work with them in their schedules. Also, they serve as invaluable resources in those technical classes!

Lunch Is On Us

Typically once a month, the Engineering folks sponsor a luncheon for all active co-ops and interns to come and learn more about the company and the various opportunities available here. ADTRAN is a relatively small company with a large number of focus interests. These social meetings help students prepare for their next assignment at ADTRAN since students usually are moved to different groups during their tours to provide them the exposure needed in determining their individual interests.

Vacation & Sick Time

When you work for ADTRAN, you are assigned tasks just like any other full-time employee. Therefore, you also receive vacation time and sick leave that you may use as conditions allow. Co-ops have been known to save their vacation time to be used for group trips to the Gulf shore, Mardi Gras, and Six Flags. Bereavement time is also available.

Get In Shape!

Let's face it, sitting in front of a computer or oscilloscope doesn't burn many calories... So stay in shape at one of the many gyms in the Huntsville area! For example, UAH's state-of-the-art fitness center has much to offer co-ops:

• a weight room complete with free weights, machines, medicine balls, etc.
• a cardio center with treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes, and even ergometers (rowing machines).
• large swimming pool
• basketball courts
• even group exercise classes such as stationary biking, aerobics, stair-stepping, etc., all guaranteed to give you a great workout.

They offer short term contracts of a few months for people just like co-ops who won't be applying for a full year membership. Visit the fitness center's website at www.universityfitnesscenter.com.

Some universities charge students a fee to be a coop student. If your university does this, ADTRAN will pay these fees for you!
